Congratulations! You are going to have a baby! These are the words that radically change the life of every couple. On the one hand, having a baby is the most exciting even for a family. But on the other hand, it is a great responsibility and involves considerable money expenses, to put it mildly.
At a first glance it might seem that baby items just cannot cost a fortune. But on closer examination you realize that all these tiny clothes, baby carriage, diapers and wipes, furnishing and decorating nursery, baby foods, baby stroller, and other things for your newborn will cost you quite a penny. So, how do you prepare for having a new member in your family and do not burry yourself in huge debts?
The latest opinion poll shows that only 57% of parents-to-be are financially prepared to have a baby, while the rest 43% admitted they were not ready. So, what is the way to get your family budget ready for such an occasion?
While there are credit cards for students, for car drivers, for sport fans, hotel rewards cards, even plastics for newlyweds, special credit cards expecting parents have not been designed yet. What you can do is stop daydreaming for a while, thinking of a name for your future baby, and make up a budget for your new family with one more person. Figure out some strategies that will help you to spend money reasonably. Here are some tips that can help you.
- Remember the golden rule of a wise spender: expensive does not mean the best. Do some research on baby items on the internet or just arrange a get-to-know tour across the stores and supermarkets with products for kids. You do not need to overpay for a designer's baby bonnet with laces, your just born little one will not appreciate it. Comfort and safety are the 2 main criteria you are to take into account.
- Consider not only expenses concerned with your future baby, take into consideration the money you will need to spend on visits to doctor, vitamins, clinic services where you are going to have your baby born.
- Visa credit card company has developed a tool that helps expecting parents to plan their spending. The tool is called Budgeting for Baby Calculator.
- Try to pay off maximum of your current balance on the credit cards you use. You will barely have some spare money for paying off credit debt after the baby is born. It will much better and easier for you to enter the new stage of your family life, having left the "excess luggage" behind.
- Choose the right credit card or its alternatives for you to use when you have your baby boy or girl. Look for the most favorable terms that will be suitable for your new status and lifestyle. You can choose a cash back credit card, for instance. The cash rebates you will get using your plastic can go towards your child's future college tuition. Think about a college savings plan.
So, these are a few basics tips for parents-to-be. Having a baby is one of the brightest events in every family's life. But remember that the financial component of bringing up a child is extremely important. And it is you who are fully responsible for the future of your baby.

yeah, having a baby these days is an expensive pleasure. my friend has gave a birth to her baby-girl just recently. she and her husband made some calculations and it turned out that they had spent about $ 8,000 while she's been pregnant on the preparations and all those purchases for the baby.
