Bad Credit History
Credit has two major drawbacks: interest and credit debt. Interest eats up a significant amount of your money funds. Credit debt can ruin your credit history and put into practice the proverb "A light purse is a heavy curse". This article is devoted to the latter problem.
Very few of credit card holders manage to pay off their balances in full every month. The majority of credit consumers tend to carry their credit card balances from month to month. They just make minimum payments. But sooner or later it comes to the point when people decide that it is high time to take the debt burden off their shoulders.
So, how to eliminate a credit card debt? Well, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. The ways to getting rid of credit card debt are known and not that unrealizable as it may seem. You just need to reconsider your spending habits and break the vicious circle of spending all spare money you earn that is left after paying bills.
Make up a new expenditure budget. Discipline yourself to spending less. Leave out all the luxury purchases and be reasonable in your buying habits. Every time you are going to get a new handbag or the 15th tie to match one of your shirts, stop and think. Maybe you can do without those items? Try to make just necessary credit card minimum purchases.
If you like to dine out, you might consider cooking at home. Home-made food is delicious, healthier and way much cheaper. Look at your water, energy and other utility bills. Quite impressive, huh? Try to save electricity. Just make sure that you turn off your computer, TV, and lights at least when you do not need it.
Do not treat these restrictions as an imprisonment. Just think that you are acquiring new habits. Besides, you do not have to change your lifestyle fundamentally. You just temporarily make a compromise with your habitual lifestyle, wishes and desires. You will not have to stint yourself in everything. But a few months later you will enjoy good credit cards with best features and options.
Your minimum payments. Forget these figures. If you really want to become debt-free you will have to make more than your minimum payments every month. Make twice more than it is set in your credit card agreement, if you find it possible. This way you reduce the total debt on your card through saving on interest charges. The more you pay off, the less you will have to pay back.
If you stick to making-minimum-payments strategy, you have very few chances to pay down your debt fast. Your balance will keep growing bigger and you will lose extra money on the interest you'll draw.
What else you can do is get a balance transfer credit card and consolidate your debts on it. Find a good offer with 0% intro APR on balance transfers and pay off your debts systematically. This is a great option to save money on interest. Not just save, you will not spend a cent on the interest. But you should remember that this interest-free period is transient. As a rule, it lasts from 6 to 12 or even 18 months. So, you will need to do your best in order to eliminate your credit debt during this period.
Besides, fast debt elimination will pay good dividends to your credit score. It will go up. As well as this will improve your credit history.
Do not wait until your credit history goes bad. If you want to live a debt-chains-free life, start taking actions right now.
